Building the future together

In the evolving world of manufacturing, efficiency is not just about doing things faster or more reliable but also smarter. That’s why at Intelligent Manufacturing, we’re not only investing in our own AI-infused capabilities, the Manufacturing Copilot, we’re also embracing a broader, open ecosystem of start-ups and innovators that help shape the future manufacturing.
From conversation to component, grounded in Sandvik know-how
Imagine this:
A user types or speaks in natural language: “I need help finishing a titanium bore to 1-inch diameter in Ti-6Al-4V (a titanium alloy) on my Haas VF2 machine, aiming for an H7 tolerance” and is rapidly guided towards an optimized manufacturing approach. This guidance will include recommendation tooling and material competence from trusted Sandvik brands like Sandvik Coromant, validated cutting parameters, suggested process strategies, and initial inspection considerations.
This is not a generic lookup but AI tapping into decades of Sandvik's specialized knowledge, potentially interacting with your existing CAM or metrology software to provide context-aware advice.
This potential of Copilot will stepwise evolve into understand and help answer critical engineering questions like:
- “What’s the most robust machining strategy for finishing this bore in Ti-6Al-4V?”
- “Given my machine's capabilities, which tool, insert geometry, and feed/speed combination will best hold tolerance and optimize tool life when working with Ti-6Al-4V?”
- “What similar setups involving Ti-6Al-4V have proven successful, and what were their key parameters?”
- "What toolpath strategies were used for similar features"
- “How can I proactively mitigate risks like chatter or tool deflection with this challenging material and operation?”
Now, envision extending this conversational interaction. Our Copilot approach is not just a chatbot. It’s a conversational assistant that reinvent user experience with e.g. voice control, real-time support, contextual recommendations, and process optimization — deeply rooted in the domain expertise of brands like Mastercam, GibbsCAM, Cimatron, Vericut, and Metrologic.
But here’s the real strength of our open eco system to support our customers: we’re not building it alone.
Powering Copilot together via agents: embracing the open ecosystem
Just like developers extend Microsoft GitHub Copilot by connecting additional models and data, we’re designing our Manufacturing Copilot to be modular and extensible, integrating unique capabilities from selected partners.
Example of some of the start-ups we engage with together with Mastercam Copilot
Each of these partners contributes specialized value creation and soon, AI agents, that plug into our Copilot infrastructure. The result is a system that learns, evolves, and adapts to support additional capabilities in the manufacturing journey, with the human in the loop.
Reinventing the user experience
Whether programming in Mastercam, inspecting with Metrologic, or designing in Cimatron — the Copilot is a consistent, intelligent guide, trained on Sandvik’s expertise and enriched by partner innovation. We envision a future where Copilot capabilities can be added, updated, or extended — much like plugins or automation scripts — while maintaining one core principle:
Guided by AI, grounded in Sandvik know-how.
As GitHub Copilot evolves into a proactive, agent-based assistant that remembers context and adapts to developers’ workflows, our Manufacturing Copilot is following a similar path. It will evolve from a reactive tool into a proactive assistant — offering hints, triggers, or automation suggestions based on history, design intent, or process stage. This unlocks intelligent strategy recommendations, tooling options, and inspection plans — automatically optimized based on geometry, materials, and past experience. The result is a dramatic reduction in setup time, fewer errors, and a faster learning curve for novice and expert users alike.
At its core, our ambition is simple: simplify manufacturing. AI agents will be, with the human in lead, unlocking creativity and control. That means evolving from complex and enforced user interfaces toward a world of natural language, conversational interactions, and intelligent, outcome-driven assistance.
At the same time this will address clear customer pain points to reduce the vast amount of applications required and provide a centralized cockpit and where applications collaborate to enhance user experience.
Let’s build it together
The future of manufacturing isn’t built behind closed doors. It’s collaborative, data-rich, physical AI and AI-infused — and we’re excited to build it together. If you’re a start-up with deep expertise in AI for manufacturing, or if you’re developing new ways to interact with design, planning, or production tools — we want to hear from you.
Together, we can turn “how?” into “wow”, one Copilot experience at a time.
